Spring/Easter Wreath

Using some new items (wreath form, silk daisies and speckled eggs) and some items from my stash (yarn, hot glue and quilt batting), I made a new wreath for my front door.

I have a big problem with wreaths in my front door in the spring.

BIRDS!

They make a nest on anything twiggy or viney. Which is why I chose the flat form that I did.

Here are the raw materials and tools:
  • Wooden wreath form (18 inches diameter)
  • Quilt batting
  • Yarn (light green chunky weight and orange worsted weight)
  • Orange and white silk daisies
  • Specked eggs (natural colors
  • Low-melt glue gun

Directions:
  • Wrap a long strip of quilt batting lightly around the form. Secure with low-melt glue gun.
  • Wrap the green chunky weight yarn around the quilt batting and the form. Secure with glue.
  • Wrap the orange yarn over the green yarn.
  • Attach flowers and eggs with glue.
  • Hang and enjoy!

My Spring Cleanup

After buying new make-up on QVC (Bare Escentuals and Tarte!), I needed to declutter and make room for the new stuff. I have a shallow drawer in my vanity that holds all of the make-up I use.

The first photo shows the bathroom counter full of the make-up and the containers from The Container Store that had to be scrubbed clean.

After an hour or so, here was the result:

Back left: Lip gloss, emergency zit med, tweezers, scissors, and nail clippers.
Back middle: Blushes and kabuki brush for Bare Minerals.
Back right: Foundations (Bare Minerals) and brush for Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation (love this so far).
Front left: Hair styling creme and Biore pore strips.
Front middle: Magnifying mirror.
Front right: Box with lid containing eye make-up. (see next photo for open box).

In the box (came with some Bare Minerals make-up from QVC - it is so pretty I couldn't throw it out): Mascara, eyeliner pencils, and eyeshadows.

I put paper towels in the bottom of all the containers to help with spillage and cleaning.

Stairs are done!

They look great. We have to patch a few holes so off the HD we go tomorrow. I need to find out the color of my trim paint so I can start painting the risers. I came up with an idea to convince my DH. I'm taping white paper to the risers to mimic the effect and see if it looks good. :)

Progress On the Stairs

We did a few more steps (uh - the DH did a few more). It's looking good and I've included an in-progress photo. I'm linking to my first linking party: National Take A Risk Day. I was inspired before I started by some other design bloggers' posts about taking up stair runners.

Tuesday

Ed and I worked on two more risers last night. It's really a one-person job. He pulls the carpet, tack strips and staples. I vacuum and clean the steps. And give lots of encouragement. And...

Now I think the risers should be painted white like the trim. I think it would look even better. Shhh! Don't tell my DH - I'll just call my DIY handyman and get it done in one day.

Sunday Night (Watching "Les Miz"!)

Sunday night and I am watching "Les Miserables" on MPT. I never tire of the music - nevAH. "on my own, pretending he's beside me"...

LOVE IT ALL!

How did I do on the to-do list? Pretty well... Let's run through them.

1) Looked at three condos for Andy. One was too expensive and old. And two others had so little guest parking. What are the builders thinking of? And the last condo was stripped of all appliances and was filthy and had huge dents in the walls. Sheesh.

2) Unpacked the last boxes in my MIL's apartment. Did a load of laundry for her. Ordered her pads on Amazon. Brought home two boxes of stuff and sorted it all (donations, trash and keep).

3) Well, I did vacuum the floors but no mopping. :( We started a project though. We are removing the carpet runner from the stairs. It's HARD. But we are about 1/3 done and will do the rest slowly each night. It looks great. We'll have to fill in some holes and give it a good polish. It will be so much easier to clean.

4) Kitty litter is cleaned.

5) Laundry is done.

Extras! Bonus!
  • Cleaned cat fur off my rocking chair in the office and placed a towel to prevent any more shedding on it.
  • Moved lots of yarn upstairs and put my two current projects in two separate bags.
  • Washed the sheets and made the bed with clean ones.

Friday

This weekend is going to be productive:
  1. Andy and I are going to look for a condo or townhouse for him to buy.
  2. I'm going to unpack all of my mother-in-law's boxes in her new apartment.
  3. The downstairs will be vacuumed and mopped.
  4. The kitty litter will be cleaned out.
  5. Laundry will be done.
  6. I will knit for a few hours no matter what.
That's all, folks.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

So it's been over three years since I've written a blog post. Yikes. I'm making a commitment to make a daily post from now on. My son, Andy, gave me his old Macbook so I can post more easily.

I'm still knitting and hope to connect with a group of like-minded women again. My knitting friends seem to have drifted away even though I felt we tried to stay in touch. I may reach out again this weekend.

I have two goals for the next few weeks. First, help my son find a condo. Second, get my bathroom renovated.

More tomorrow....
